Major Rose, our amazing Worldview teacher here at STARS, has a saying. “Worldview is caught like a virus.” The implication of this saying is that our worldview is formed by our interactions with the people we spend the most time with. Spending hours watching a particular YouTube star cannot help but influence your worldview. Spending hours with a person of bad character cannot help but impact your worldview. Spending time with Jesus is the most powerful form of influence possible.
If we do not understand the religions of the world, we will not realize that we are “catching” those worldviews when we consume media: movies, books, and music because we won’t recognize the basis or foundation of those mediums. We will not be discerning about what we watch, hear, or indulge in. An understanding of the different religions of the worldview and how they influence our culture is the solid foundation our students need as they head out into the world.
